About Buckner Westminster Place

Buckner Westminster Place is in Longview, in the East Texas Lakes & Piney Woods region of Texas. Developer: Buckner Retirement Services. Status: Open. Not age-restricted; it is included for retiree-oriented amenities.

Buckner Westminster Place is a senior living campus in Longview, in Gregg County, operated by Buckner Retirement Services. It is a continuing-care style community, meaning that independent living, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing, including short-term rehabilitation and long-term care, are offered on a single campus. It is not an age-restricted, for-sale neighborhood: residents live in the community under a residency arrangement with the operator, in apartments and patio homes the operator provides, rather than owning a deed-restricted house. The community's address is 2201 Horseshoe Lane, Longview, TX 75605.

Buckner's own history page says Westminster Place opened in Longview in 1996 as an independent living community, and the community's FAQ says it was established in 1996 as a faith-based, nonprofit community with a full continuum of care on a 16-acre campus near shopping, dining and entertainment, including Longview Mall. Buckner began in Dallas in 1879, opened its first official retirement community in 1954, and says it serves more than 2,000 senior adults each year and ranks as the second largest nonprofit senior living provider in Texas on a LeadingAge Ziegler list from 2025. Buckner's site says it has eight communities in Texas.

The care levels are described in detail on the community's website. Independent living is aimed at seniors in good health who do not need help with daily activities and who want to give up home maintenance. The site lists a complimentary continental breakfast, daily noon and evening chef-prepared meals, all utilities except telephone, interior and exterior maintenance and groundskeeping, scheduled transportation, weekly housekeeping and linen service, 24-hour staffing, chaplain services, a health club membership, and amenities including a main dining room, bistro, salon and barber shop, library, chapel, walking trails with fountains, a stocked fishing pond, a movie theater and an on-site wellness center. Assisted living adds three meals a day and help with bathing, dressing, toileting, medication and transfers.

Memory care is delivered through what the site calls SparkHappiness Memory Care by Buckner, a faith-based program for residents with dementia, with 24-hour on-staff nurses, nurse aides and medication aides, music therapy, and monthly dementia caregiver webinars and support groups for families. Skilled nursing covers short-term rehabilitation and long-term care with 24-hour nursing and therapy, in private and semi-private rooms, and the site says it accepts Medicare, private pay and private insurances. Respite stays are available for caregivers who need a break.

Two points need care. First, the structure of the financial contract should be confirmed in writing. Buckner's history page describes a different community, Ventana by Buckner in Dallas, as its first Life Care senior living community, so a Life Care or entrance-fee arrangement should not be assumed for Westminster Place; ask for the written residency agreement and a dated fee schedule, and ask whether any entrance, community or second-person fee applies. Second, the FAQ says that Buckner's intention is for residents to be able to call Westminster Place home for the rest of their lives, and that after qualifying financially at move-in, residents may request financial assistance in the future if they meet certain criteria. That is the operator's statement, not a guarantee, and the terms belong in the contract.

The operator also describes its financial stability. Its Why Buckner page says that as a nonprofit it reinvests financial resources in the community, that it has a Senior Care and Assistance fund intended to keep residents from being asked to leave because of a genuine inability to pay, that it has never missed a debt service payment or defaulted on a loan, and that it has had one pre-planned bankruptcy as part of the debt restructuring for the acquisition of a new community. Those are statements from Buckner, and a prospective resident or an adviser should still review current audited financial statements and the state licensing record. The site displays an assisted living license number in its footer.

Age restrictions at Buckner Westminster Place

Buckner Westminster Place is a senior living community, not a deed-restricted age-qualified neighborhood. Buckner's site presents it for seniors and does not state a minimum age, and admission follows the operator's residency, care-level and financial qualification process; confirm eligibility and any age rule in the residency agreement.

Buckner's FAQ, read October 8, 2026, says costs vary by residence type, care level and services needed, and that Independent Living starts at $3,100, Assisted Living starts at $5,400 and Memory Support starts at $7,120, without a billing period or date; the cost calculator page shows "Starting at $3,480" as the community's cost. Treat those as starting points only. Separately, the community's website offers an online cost calculator that compares a prospective resident's current monthly expenses with the estimated cost of living at Westminster Place and says it provides an estimate, not an official quote. Ask the community for a written, dated price list that shows the monthly fee for each residence, what is included, any entrance or community fee, any second-person charge and how rate increases are set and noticed.

The floor plans listed on the site give sizes, which help in comparing space. Independent living studios and one-bedroom apartments run from 435 to 725 square feet, two-bedroom, two-bath apartments run from 906 to 1,256 square feet, and two-bedroom, two-bath patio homes are 1,161 and 1,354 square feet.
